Sandy River flows into the Mississippi from the east. A mile up the river is the popular Sandy Lake Recreation Area and Libby Dam. It features a large camping area, with many facilities and access to Sandy Lake.

The east and west Savanna River flow through marshy grasslands and were part of the original Northwest Trail—leading to Savanna Portage, a historic trade route between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River.
